About This Course

Topic: Improve Your Surface Safety Skills, We'll Cover Best Practices To Keep You And Your Students Safe Rather Than Lucky

This presentation is targeted to pilots operating in the Runway Safety Area (RSA) and the signs, painted markings and lighting that surround it. The RSA is a protected area for the safe departure and landing, and if necessary, excursion space for pilots. Pilot Deviation (PD) Runway Incursions (RI) related to crossing the Runway Hold Line without communication or authorization continue to trend for general aviation pilots. This discussion will encompass a presentation of statistics, the visual cues surrounding the RSA, the Flight Standards Compliance Program. Lastly, and importantly, resources are provided to the flight instructors for a review and use to develop lesson plans for students.
