About This Course

Arlynn McMahon highlights the differences between training like you fly and training to a testing standard, and looks at lesson plans that pilots at all levels can use to improve pilot skills and to Train Like You Fly.

US Army General George Patton once said, "Train like you fight and fight like you train." He was encouraging troops to train under the conditions of the expected operational environment. Doesn't it make sense for pilots to Train Like You Fly?

The talk draws on the fourth edition of her book Lesson Plans to Train Like You Fly, a guide for certificated flight instructors (and all learners) that presents lesson plans in the form of scenario-based maneuver briefings. A resource for active instructors, the lesson plans also help CFI applicants preparing their own materials. This edition incorporates material previously published in Train Like You Fly: A Flight Instructor's Guide to Scenario-Based Training, along with current best practices and advice for teaching both visual and instrument flight. It is designed to work with any syllabus and the FAA test standards, and explains how to teach each maneuver.

Part of the ASA Presents Author Talk Series from ASA (Aviation Supplies & Academics).
